Best Drones for Photography: DJI

If you have done any research, you have probably seen DJI, at least, a few times. This is because they are one of the best at making high-quality drones for photographers. No matter which model you get, all of DJI’s drones have some of the best stability, camera quality and controls in the below $3000 price range. these are the most important features you want to look for in drones for photography. DJI uses many sensors inducing GPS and vision positioning in some of their drones so you get a very stable flight. Even in moderate winds, the drone can hover in place. What’s most important is that they have 3 axis gimbals on their camera to provide the smoothest video you can get for the price. The controller is small and easy to use, with a powerful transmitter able to control the drone over a mile away. On the controller is either a screen or you have to connect an IOS or Android device and you are able to see what your drone is filming in real-time HD thanks to lightbridge.

DJI Phantom Standard

The DJI phantom Standard is the cheapest drone you can get that is able to shoot professional quality video and photos. It has everything you want in a basic photography drone: Stable flight, even in windy conditions, a 2.7k camera with a 3 axis gimbal, and excellent controls including a live feed of what you’re filming directly on your controller. The DJI Phantom Standard is the best drone for photography on a budget.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional

The DJI Phantom 3 Professional looks and handles very similarly to the DJI Phantom Standard. It’s pretty much the same drone but with a couple key differences. The DJI Phantom 3 professional has a 4k camera and gimbal and also has a vision positioning system which makes flying indoors more stable. If 4k is something you need, then the DJI Phantom 3 Professional is a good choice.

DJI T600 Inspire 1

The DJI Inspire 1 is one of the most expensive consumer drones DJI has to offer. It costs a little under $2500 which can be a lot for some people and honestly its advantages over other drones are probably not that necessary for the average drone buyer. If 360° camera vision, 4k resolution and an awesome looking drone is what you’re looking for, and you have $2500 to spare, then the DJI Inspire 1 could be for you.

DJI isn’t the only manufacturer that makes good drone for photography. Below are two drones made by other companies which are also excellent choices.

Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter

The reason I like the Yuneec Q500 so much is because it can shoot in 4k but its still under $1000. Now you might be thinking they skimp on other aspects to make it so cheap but from what I can tell, its a very solid product. The controller has a touch screen built in for easier tracking of your shots, and the drone comes with a metal case which can hold everything for when you travel. It also has 3 flight modes: follow me, GPS mode, and return home.

Overall if 4k is something you need but you have a small budget, this is the best option you can get right now.

3DR Solo Drone Quadcopter

This drone probably has the most software features out of all the drones on this list of Best drones for Photography. It has four flight modes: Orbit, Follow Me, Cable Cam, and Selfie. It doesn’t have a camera out of the box like the other drones do, so you need to have a goPro to take photos and videos. This can be a great thing if you already have a GoPro and it also give you more choice in what camera you want. One feature that is unique to The 3DR Solo is its ability to control the GoPro while in flight. This drone isn’t cheap, though, and if you want to buy a gimbal, for example, you need to go to their website and order one.
